Sarah and i (ryan) just attended a talk by Fred Turner who counterposed the New Left and the "new communalists" (typified by Stewart Brand and Fuller's "comprehensive designer"). Was a powerful critique of design/cultural consciousness as politics, but it also (al least to me) revealed a lack of recognition of the kind of politial strategies NOT bound to traditions of the european avant gardes - such as that GL Boggs typifies.
